13th Annual Pinot Noir Shootout Results
Scores: Women Judges

In a distinctly different format and atmosphere from other wine-tasting events, the attendees blind tasted the wines and pitted their palates against the expert judging panel. The wines were divided into 2 groups of 23 wines each (the Black Group and the Silver Group). The wines were dressed in Vino Sleeves and identified by a random color. The male and female votes were tallied separately.

After tasting the wines blind, the Wine Lovers at The Pinot Summit were given 5 chips (red for the women and blue for the men) and were invited to cast their votes for their favorite wines with the chips provided. They could vote for as many as 5 wines or as few as one, indicating their passion for each wine by the number of chips they dropped in the ballot box.

The palate is well layered and velvety with crisp acidity on the finish. "I love this now but want to taste it again in 6 months, a year, 5 years, and 10 years from now. It has the structure to go the distance! This Pinot is gigantic in raspberry, cherry and cola fruit, and its silky texture and crisp acidity make it particularly drinkable. On the other hand, it’s rather forward and one-dimensional. Give it a good, long decant, and you might even want to pour the glasses an hour before drinking. Now–2015. pH 3.67, 196 cases, $40. • Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of red cherries, cranberry and sandalwood. Light and delicate, but flavorful, featuring dark red cherry and berry flavors backed up by brisk acidity. The pedigree of this established vineyard shows through. Very good.
