13th Pinot Noir Shootout Results

In a distinctly different format and atmosphere from other wine-tasting events, the attendees blind tasted the wines and pitted their palates against the expert judging panel. The wines were divided into 2 groups of 23 wines each (the Black Group and the Silver Group). The wines were dressed in Vino Sleeves and identified by a random color. (Wines with colors after the price indicate that they were in the Blind Tasting) The male and female votes were tallied separately.

Awards by gender will be indicated on the Male & Female pages.

This Pinot is gigantic in raspberry, cherry and cola fruit, and its silky texture and crisp acidity make it particularly drinkable. On the other hand, it’s rather forward and one-dimensional. Give it a good, long decant, and you might even want to pour the glasses an hour before drinking. Now–2015. pH 3.67, 196 cases, $40. • Moderately light reddish-purple color in the glass. Aromas of red cherries, cranberry and sandalwood. Light and delicate, but flavorful, featuring dark red cherry and berry flavors backed up by brisk acidity.
