Male: Cranberry, sweet tarts, strawberry, and a hint of herb on the nose replicate nicely on the palate with the addition of citrus and white spice to compliment the fruit. 86

A Blooming Hill Vineyard 2008 Estate Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains AVA, $20.00: 475 cases produced; Female: Medicinal aromas but the wine is redeemed on the palate with great fruit/acid structure. 86
Male: Rich nose. Full body palate of black cherry, cassis, cedar, and leather. The oak is a bit too prominent, but it’s a big Pinot throughout. 87

Adirondack Winery Pinot Noir American, $18.50: 200 cases produced; Female: Strawberry and cherry jam aromas are repeated on the palate with a toasty note and a zippy acid lifted finish. 87
Male: Black cherries and raspberry aromas and flavors. Medium bodied. Nice acid on the finish. 86

Adobe Road Winery 2007 O’Neel Vineyard Pinot Noir Russian River, $48.00: 575 cases produced; Female: Black cherry, cola, forest floor, and mushroom soup aromas. The palate shows root beer, vanilla, very, and interesting dark earth notes. Big oak and tannins. 85
Male: The nose is complex with citrus, cherry, strawberry, clove, and meat elements. A touch of volatile acidity is apparent. Cherry, barnyard, and herbs mid-palate move into a choco-berry finish with herbs and spice. 85

Adobe Road Wines 2007 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, $35.00: 700 cases produced; Female: At first pure cherry aromas then eucalyptus comes in. Quite interesting on the palate – cherry, sour cherry, clove, and nice acid. Oak dominates the finish. 86
Male: Cinnamon and an unusual touch of face powder in the nose. Graham cracker, cocoa powder, stewed beefsteak tomatoes, and ripe cherry on the palate. The tannins are quite prominent and drying. 86

Alexander Valley Vineyards 2008 Estate Pinot Noir Alexander Valley, $27.00: 1499 cases produced; Female: Enticing nose of herbs de Provence. Smoky cranberry flavors on the palate. Oak tannins kick in on the finish. 87
Male: Pretty dark color. Menthol and cherries on the nose. Black cherries, pomegranate. Balanced with emerging barrel notes. 87

Alma Rosa Winery & Vineyards 2008 La Encantada Vineyards Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills, $43.00: 591 cases produced; Female: The nose is predominantly cherry with a hint of eucalyptus. Pomegranate and rhubarb flavors. Delicately structured and balanced with plenty of acidity. 90
Male: Very spicy and toasty aromas at first that suppress the fruit then black cherry and rhubarb emerge. The fruit repeats on the palate with earthiness mid-palate through the finish. This wine should age well. 89

Male: Pretty pomegranate, raspberry, and sweet cherry aromas replicate on the palate where they’re joined by spice and licorice elements. Gentle tannins contribute to the smooth mouthfeel. 87

Male: A very complex wine showing chocolate, anise, and dark fruit. Elegant and well-balanced displaying wonderful acidity. dark cherry and vanilla flavors heat opening to deeper and deeper layers revealing baking spice and some gamey notes. A special wine. 93

Sta Rita Hills, $35.00 Lilac: 850 cases produced; Female: Cherry, cola, and strawberry waft from the glass. Luscious berry flavors open onto your palate with interesting selections of spice driven by cinnamon and cardamom. 90
Male: Blood red in color with baked cherry crisp and licorice aromas. Rich and lush on opening. Both opulent and sleek with integrated tannins. Good grip with a racy, infused surfer ride finish. 92

Anam Cara Cellars 2008 Estate Nicholas Estate Pinot Noir Chehalem Mountains, $29.00: 1000 cases produced; Female: “I like the nose!” Floral notes open to strawberry and smoky notes. The palate shows delicate red fruit. There’s some nice spice components and minerality on the finish. 88
Male: Complex and inviting nose of cherry, exotic spices, floral notes, and smoke. The palate is tight but shows red berry peeking through the lovely spice complex. It’s all there – just needs time. “I will buy several bottles of this and taste them over the next two years.” 88

Anglim 2008 Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills, $48.00: Female: “Wow!” Incredibly young, this wine is big and bold with black fruit and spice on the nose. In the background,there is a floral component. The palate is big and bold too. The tannins are fairly aggressive right now but there is enough fruit to carry. Needs time to develop but should be sensational in 8 months to a year. 88
Male: The nose is intense with black fruit and lots of spice. The palate is tight showing mostly spice and tannin. As the wine opens, it begins to show the black fruit flavors. This is just a baby and needs time but it’s all there for future development. 88

Anglim 2008 Jack Ranch Pinot Noir Edna Valley, $34.00: Female: Intriguing and elusive. Licorice, raspberry, medium cherry, and exotic wood. Lovely and balanced with chocolate on the finish. 88
Male: Floral and foresty notes on the nose. Sweet black cherry flavors with clove and coffee back notes. Nice acid. 87

Archery Summit 2007 Premier Cuvee Pinot Noir Dundee Hills, Willamette Valley, $48.00: 9500 cases produced; Female: Barnyard aromas dominate. The palate is tight with lots of oak and barnyard eclipsing the lovely sweet cherry and mushroom flavors at present. It’s all there but needs time to mature. 89
Male: Cherry, rhubarb, and subtle oak accents in the glass. Black cherry, tea, licorice, and leather on the palate. The oak is dominant on the finish. 89

Argot Wines 2009 Over The Moon Silver Pines Vineyard Pinot Noir Sonoma Mountain, $39.00: 100 cases produced; Female: Deep garnet in color. Tart cherry cordial, raspberry, and strawberry jam aromas and flavors. The finish is a bit tight and short. 83
Male: The nose is tight. The palate is rich with black fruit and good acidity. 83

Male: Earthy, brooding, blackberry, and bacon fat aromas. The palate 100% mirrors the nose with tobacco on the finish. 87

Asuncion Ridge Vineyards 2008 Pinot Noir San Luis Obispo County, $38.00: 415 cases produced; Female: Some cherry with a touch of mushroom on the nose. Really pretty and layered fruit and spices. Well integrated on the palate. Deft use of oak and nice acid. Needs time but will definitely improve. 89
Male: Cherry, plum, and a touch of mushroom in the glass. Entry mirrors the nose. Complex mid-palate of fruit spice predominantly plum and cola. Lush finish with enough acid to carry. Warm finish. Good length. 89

Athair 2008 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley, $36.00: 919 cases produced; Female: Earthy blackberry, and eucalyptus nose. Cherry flavors at the core. Aggressive oak on the palate. Needs time. 86
Male: The nose is faint but the palate is a rich and displays a well integrated blend of black cherry, leather, earth, cedar, tar, and clove. Lots going on! Smooth and balanced. 86

Russian River Valley, $36.00 Brick: 795 cases produced; Female: “Smells like cool climate Pinot Noir.” Strawberry, strawberry jam, cranberry, and cherry on the nose. It’s all about the fruit. A feminine wine with strawberry, dried cherry, and a touch of herbaceousness. A hint of vanilla and sweet smoke on the finish. Elegant. 92
Male: Earth and leather on the nose with baked rhubarb and dry cola. Very good. “Love the mushroom and loamy notes.” Balanced acidity with a lovely mouthfeel. Fresh tobacco and darker rhubarb fruit late. Fine tannins. 92

Banshee 2009 Pinot Noir Sonoma County, $27.50: 325 cases produced; Female: In the glass, very bright with a deep garnet almost amethyst hue. Violets, raspberry, licorice, and a hint of geraniums on the nose. The flavors are floral driven with intense violet notes. Pretty and lively with chocolate, raspberry, and cranberry accents. 89
Male: The wine is opaque in the glass, bright ruby at the core with a ruby rim. The aromas show a pronounced intensity of fresh fruit – pomegranate, raspberry, and rhubarb with floral notes. Dense mouthfeel with lots of acid. Intense raspberry, cherry, and rhubarb flavors. Medium tannins on the long finish. Good concentration and structure. 89

Big in every way but the wine is balanced. Young and brash…needs time to mature but will age nicely. 89
Male: Well made, bigger style Pinot Noir. “Cherry candy and blue cheese aromatic. Sounds strange but it works!” Strawberry jam. The palate is sweet with bright red fruits. Good balance. Yummy. 90

Male: Ripe red fruit aromas. Carbonic maceration? Dr Pepper and hints of cedar too. Aromas repeat on the palate. Balanced and well made. Lots of whole berry fruit. Very young and approachable. 84

Male: Dust and black tea on the nose. Wow! What surprising mid-palate flavors! Cuban tobacco, pomegranate and more. Seamless. “Taste and finish leads me to believe it is expensive. If it had a more expansive mouthfeel, I would have given it 95 points!,” stated one of our judges. 90

BIN 36 2007 Pinot Noir Monterey, $26.00: 1020 cases produced; Female: Holiday baking spices in the glass. Dark cherry on entry moves to lighter ripe cherry. Nice acidity. 83
Male: The nose is dark and hard to identify. It’s a bruiser on the palate – molasses, coffee, rhubarb, orange peel, and lots of citrus and herbal notes. 81

Block Nine 2009 Caiden’s Vineyards Pinot Noir California, $13.00: 5000 cases produced; Female: Rich aromas of blackberry jam, Bing cherry, and a touch of tar. Lovely in the mouth – complex with cranberry, cherry, blackberry, vanilla, and cinnamon all playing a part. Smooth texture and finish. 90
Male: Aromas of strawberry jam, orange rind, and earth. The palate is concentrated and lively with cherry cola flavors and excellent length. 90

Bogle 2008 Pinot Noir

California, $11.00 Dark Red: 45000 cases produced; Female: The intriguing nose beckons you…strawberry, lilac, and peppermint perfume arise from the glass. The palate shows dried cherry and is citrusy bright with grapefruit, pink lemonade, guava and watermelon notes. Sprightly acid. “A gauzy, strapless dress on a windy afternoon.” 91
Male: Cola and rhubarb define the nose with some char and dried florals underneath. Great structure here, angular with good acid. Cherry, cola, good fresh garden herbs enhance the flavors of this wine. Smooth and velvety. 90

Los Carneros, $34.00 Gold: 300 cases produced; Female: The fresh and clean red fruit nose leads to cherry, raspberry and cinnamon on the palate. A lovely lighter style. Fruit forward with subtle sawdust notes. Nice acidity. 90
Male: The nose is a bit reticent though pretty and balanced with tight marzipan and black cherry aromas. Warm and rounded on the palate with herbal tones kicking in. A long surf rider finish. Altogether lovely. 91

Bouchaine 2008 Pinot Noir Carneros, $30.00: 8704 cases produced; Female: Herbal and candied notes on the nose. Sweet cherry cordial flavors fill the palate with hints of mint on the finish. A crowd pleaser. 89
Male: An interesting and angular wine with herb and chalk notes. Rather closed at first but nicely structured and complex through the finish. Some definite connection to Burgundy here. 90

Napa Valley – Carneros, $45.00 Turquoise: 413 cases produced; Female: Cherry jello, black plum, and a touch of cinnamon in the glass. Powerful and dense on the palate. Smooth but tangy finish. 91
Male: Intriguing layered nose of candied cherry, cedar, spice, sage, and chocolate. Young and oaky with tight fruit and showy tannins. Has potential for a long life. 90

Bouchaine 2008 Estate Vineyard Pinot Meunier Napa Valley – Carneros, $35.00: 320 cases produced; Female: The nose is slightly closed at first but opens to cherry notes. Good finish showing strawberry and cola. The powerful tannins are mediated by the fruit. Should age well. 88
Male: The nose is intriguing with candied cherry, cedar, spice, sage, and chocolate. Young and tight on the palate. The fruit and oak mesh nicely. Muscular, showy tannins. Has the potential for a long life. 88

Male: Good depth and balance. With cranberry on the nose, rose petals on the palate and nice acid, the mouthfeel is totally unique, yet still a very Pinot like experience. 90

Russian River Valley, $48.00 Yellow: 400 cases produced; Female: Ruby in color with aromas of black raspberry, pine forest, and hints of roasted tomato underneath. The mouthfeel is silky with snappy acidity. 92
Male: Ruby in color. The cedar and cherry nose is slightly hot but does not negatively impact the impression of the wine. Cherry cola and sweet red fruit on opening, cherry pie intensity mid-palate with soft cranberry and toffee on the medium-ling finish. Nice wine! 90

Cakebread Cellars 2007 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley, $49.00: 1000 cases produced; Female: Ripe cherry jam aromas open to delicious cherry, cola, and vanilla flavors. Nice firm texture with a very long spicy, ripe fruity finish. 90
Male: Leather and mineral notes. The flavors are fruit forward – dark, almost black fruit. The oak shows as coffee on the finish. The oak hangs in there and then acid kicks in. A youthful wine that will age nicely. 89

Calcareous Vineyard 2008 Pinot Noir York Mountain, $34.00: 150 cases produced; Female: Asian spice with big cola, root beer, and forest floor aromas. The dark fruit flavors are restrained. Exotic and unusual. 87
