I’m so excited, I just can’t hide it…and don’t want to!

Meet my new partners, Don Winkler and Mike Potashnik of International Wine Review.

International Wine Review has joined Affairs of the Vine to promote Pinot Noir, my favorite varietal. IWR and AOTV will work together to create and produce the 8th Annual Pinot Noir Shootout and the Pinot Noir Summit.

International Wine Review will feature results of the Pinot Noir Shootout and Summit in an upcoming issue of IWR. The story will be in the inimitable IWR style that is consistent with their philosophy and will highlight their participation, the uniqueness of the process, and the results.

Affairs of the Vine will continue to post the gender based results and reviews on the Affairs of the Vine website http://www.affairsofthevine.com

The International Wine Review, highly regarded in wine circles, is a bi-monthly publication written for wine enthusiasts who love wine and want to learn a lot more about it. The issues are available online and in print format.

Of the twenty in-depth reports published to date, the IWR has explored Pinot Noir in three New World regions – Oregon, New Zealand, and the Santa Lucia Highlands. IWR has also reviewed the new wine releases of many of the major Pinot Noir producers in California on their website

I’m thrilled with the partnership that Affairs of the Vine and International Wine Review have structured. It’s the perfect blend of talents and experience. The Pinot Noir Shootout has been extremely successful over the past seven years, but the collaboration with International Wine Review brings new energy and expertise and allows us to provide our results to a wider audience of consumers and trade.

  1. Barbara,

Your post prompts me to raise the topic of your gender approach to rating vino. Assuming that there may be differences, the results of one competition arrayed this way seems statistically suspect to me (who knows zilch about statistics). Wouldn’t any two sets of people, selected, say, by age or education level or race or just picked randomly come up with different results. How do you control for all the other variables that each taster, regardless of gender, is subject to? And this doesn’t even touch on the larger set of issues raised about awards programs by Bob Hodgson’s article in the wine economists journal. Just pondering.

But mostly I wanted to congratulate you on forging this partnership. It’s an excellent match and will advance both entities. Congrats.

    TOM
